Intimate relationships are some of the most powerful forces in our lives. Feeling close with another person, creating a life together and sharing ourselves completely are some of the things that make us feel the most alive and happy.
It is for exactly this positive reason that, when things aren't quite right in those relationships, it can cause a ripple effect of emotional turmoil, misunderstandings, difficult communication and pain.
Therapeutic intervention at times like this, when members of a couple feel distant from or unhappy with their partner, can be invaluable. In my role as a couples therapist I serve as a facilitator to communication, teaching skills to shift out of negative cycles.
Often, once individuals are able to share their feelings in a way their partner can hear, they are able to close the distance between themselves and explore the shape of their relationship to ensure more successes in the future.
